National Anthem Day

Happy Wednesday and National Anthem Day!

national anthem

Did you know that the National Anthem was composed in the year 1814 by Francis Scott Key? It was written after he witnessed the “massive overnight British bombardment of Fort McHenry in Maryland”

The National Anthem, also known as “The Star-Spangled Banner”, was first published to a newspaper and then later on was set to the tune of “To Anacreon in Heaven”. But it was not until 1916 that the song was formally signed as the United States National Anthem by President Woodrow Wilson. It was not until 1931, that Congress passed a measure declaring it as the official national anthem.

Watch a short clip here about the story of the US National Anthem

Now you can hear the National Anthem played at most sports games, NASCAR races, and much more. It is a sign of patriotism and the strong foundation of the United States.

However, you choose to celebrate today, remember the history and the freedom the United States has brought to you. So wave a flag, or roll your windows down and enjoy the sun, happy National Anthem Day!
